The ND/PL (combo neutral density + circular polarizer) filters combine two effects in one with light reduction covering cloudy to bright sunny days and polarization for minimizing glare and reflections while boosting color and contrast. The CPL (circular polarizer) filter does the same thing minus light reduction if polarization is all you need. The neutral density filters are designed to give you the ability to manually adjust exposure by blocking various amounts of light from hitting the cameras sensor.
